1. Introduction

Halt ("we," "us," or "our") is a mobile application that helps people track their progress while quitting nicotine. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Halt app handles, where it is stored, and what limited third-party services may receive.

The short version: Halt has no account, no sign-up, and no server. The health and usage information you enter stays on your device. We do not collect, receive, or store your personal health data on our systems because we have no systems that receive it.

2. Information we do not collect

Halt does not require or collect:

• Name, email address, phone number, or postal address
• Account credentials or social sign-in
• Government identifiers
• Precise location
• Contacts, photos (except those you explicitly choose for quit-reason cards, stored locally only)
• Advertising identifiers (IDFA / GAID) — we do not use them and do not request App Tracking Transparency consent
• Health data transmitted to us — your entries never leave your device

There is no backend database, cloud sync, or user profile stored by Halt on any server operated by us.

3. Information stored on your device

All data you create in Halt is stored locally in an on-device SQLite database and in local key-value storage. This includes, for example:

• Quit plan details (products, quantities, costs, quit date, taper settings)
• Craving logs, slip records, and HALT session history
• Daily check-ins and mood entries
• Journal entries and quit letters
• Custom quit reasons and optional photos you attach to reason cards
• Derived statistics (money saved, units avoided, streaks, dependency index, achievements)
• App preferences (theme, notification settings, notification schedule metadata)
• Optional Vault recordings you make for yourself (audio messages stored in the app’s private storage on the device). These recordings are never uploaded or transmitted, are excluded from crash and analytics payloads, are included in an iCloud device backup if you have one enabled, and are permanently deleted by per-entry deletion or by Erase All Data
• An optional first name you type for Witness (someone you may choose to share a progress card with). Halt stores only that name on your device — never a phone number, email, or handle — and never contacts anyone on your behalf

Sharing a progress card: If you use Witness, Halt renders an image of your own progress on this device and hands it to your phone’s system share sheet. Your own Messages app (or whatever app you pick) does the sending. Halt itself transmits nothing, requests no contacts access, and has no knowledge of who you send the image to.

This data is not transmitted to us. It remains on your phone unless you choose to export it (see Section 6) or erase it (see Section 7).

If you uninstall the app or lose your device without exporting, this data may be permanently lost. We cannot recover it because we never had a copy.

4. Third-party services

Halt uses a small number of third-party SDKs. None of them receive the health or journal content you type into the app.

4.1 Superwall (subscriptions)

Provider: Superwall, Inc.
Purpose: Display subscription paywalls and process in-app purchases through Apple App Store (and Google Play, if applicable).
Data involved: Anonymous device and purchase-related identifiers as required by the store and Superwall to validate subscriptions. Superwall does not receive your journal entries, quit letters, craving notes, or other on-device health content.

4.2 Sentry (crash reporting)

Provider: Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry)
Purpose: Diagnose app crashes and technical errors to improve stability.
Data involved: Crash stack traces, device model, OS version, and app version.
Scrubbing: Before any event is sent, Halt removes or redacts user-entered text fields (including journal bodies, quit letters, custom reasons, check-in notes, slip notes, and witness names). We configure Sentry not to receive the content of what you write in the app.

4.3 PostHog (optional analytics)

Provider: PostHog, Inc.
Purpose: Anonymous product analytics (e.g., which screens are used), only if enabled with an API key in a given build.
Data involved: Anonymous usage events. No user-entered health text is included in analytics payloads. If no analytics key is configured, this SDK does nothing.

4.4 Apple / Google (app stores)

Purchases are processed entirely by Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive your payment card number. Store transaction history is governed by Apple's or Google's privacy policies.

5. What we do not do

• We do not sell your data.
• We do not share your on-device health data with advertisers, data brokers, or social networks.
• We do not use your data for cross-app tracking.
• We do not build advertising profiles from your usage.

6. Export your data

From Settings → Export data (subscription required), you can export a copy of your on-device data as JSON and CSV files through your device's share sheet. You choose where those files go (Files app, email, cloud storage you control). Export is initiated by you; we do not receive the exported files.

7. Erase your data

From Settings → Erase all data, you can permanently delete all information stored by Halt on your device. This action cannot be undone. We have no copy to delete on our servers.

Uninstalling the app may also remove local data depending on your device and OS behavior.

8. Children's privacy

Halt is intended for users 18 years of age and older. The app includes an age gate that prevents users who indicate they are under 18 from proceeding. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the app in error, contact us at kevinglass80@gmail.com.

9. Your rights (California — CCPA/CPRA)

Because Halt does not collect personal information on our servers, most CCPA categories of "sale" or "sharing" do not apply. To the extent any diagnostic or purchase-related data is processed by third parties listed in Section 4:

• Right to know: You may contact us to ask what categories of data third-party SDKs may process.
• Right to delete: Erasing data in the app (Section 7) deletes all locally stored information. For data held by Apple/Google related to purchases, use their account tools.
• Right to opt out of sale/sharing: We do not sell personal information.
• Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.

10. Your rights (EEA / UK — GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom:

• Legal basis: Where third-party SDKs process limited technical or purchase data, processing is based on legitimate interests (app stability, subscription management) or contractual necessity (providing the subscription you purchased).
• Right of access / portability: Use in-app export (Section 6) for data portability. We do not hold a server copy of your health data.
• Right to erasure: Use in-app erase (Section 7). Contact us for any residual questions about third-party processors.
• Right to object / restrict: Contact us at kevinglass80@gmail.com.
• Supervisory authority: You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

We do not transfer your on-device health content internationally because it is not transmitted to us.

11. Security

Halt stores data in the app's protected sandbox on your device, using the security mechanisms provided by iOS and Android. Because data does not leave your device to our servers, the primary security measure is your device passcode, biometrics, and physical control of your phone.

No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use device encryption and to export backups if losing your phone would be costly.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy at the same URL and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may also be noted in the app or App Store release notes.

This policy describes the Halt mobile application as built in August 2026. If future versions introduce cloud sync, accounts, or other features that transmit user data, this policy, the App Store privacy labels, and in-app disclosures must be updated before those features ship.
